Where to stay in Singapore?

Where to stay in Singapore?
It seems there is no middle. Choose between too cheap (that is, by the hour!) and too expensive (dull, or flashy). I'm looking for that decent place: clean, windows, fine location. Internet would be helpful, but in short, a place to sleep well, without much hassle.
Does anybody have a suggestion in Singapore?
Is it Hotel 81?
Thoughts appreciated.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by cheap/expensive. But you can check out this: Hangout Hotels

I haven't stayed in it before, but I've heard of good reviews.

Hotel 81 is a hotel chain for budget traveler. Its rooms are clean and comfortable and conveniently located in many touristy areas. Taxis are relatively cheap so going to the airport is not a problem.

Hi.. I have few options.. all depends on the purpose.. if you are traveling for business then there are few hotels located near central business district. M Hotel Singapore is one of the hotels that offer special business packages. if u r visiting for leisure.. I would like to suggest Copthorne King's Hotel Singapore, and Copthroen Orchid Hotel Singapore which are not luxury but with high quality service..

No matter where I travel to, I opt for hostels/budgets hotels the first few days and then look for longer term lodging (affordable longer term lodging) once I talk to other backpackers and some of the locals.

Just discovered a few other options. But to take note that I haven't stayed in there before.

Hotel Hamilton (just one stop away from Central area)

Well! There is a huge list of cheap hotels in Singapore. The list includes Joo Chiat Singapore, Hotel Emerald Singapore, Sapphire Singapore, Ruby Singapore, Pearl Singapore and Crystal Singapore. These hotels give the best services on affordable prices.

The 2 better that I've used have been the Copthorne Orchid and Rendezvous Hotel both in the $100 -$150 per night region. You maybe able to get it lower if you're lucky.

my suggestion would be Hotel Royal on Newton Road

Near MRT
Safe neighborhood

Besides the hotel 81 chains, you could try out the Fragrance hotel chain as well. They have plenty of those in Singapore.
