Bali Palm Malaysia itinerary

Hi guys,

Whilst this site has a lot of Thailand knowledge, it is thinner on the ground about Malaysia (currently). I was hoping a few of you could suggest some sample holiday itineraries for Malaysia - e.g. given 2 or maybe 3 weeks there, where would you go?

Here's my itinerary from a while back I took overland from Thailand. It wasn't the most logical in terms of order of places to visit but it might give some ideas.

Day 1: Penang
Day 2-4: Kuala Kumpur
Day 5-8: Perhentian Islands
Day 9: Kuala Lumpur
Day 10-11: Cameron Highlands
Day 12-13: Taman Negara
Day 14-15: Kuching
Day 16-19: Kota Kinabalu
Day 20: Kuala Lumpur -> fly home

Looking forward to sample itineraries from locals and travellers alike

Default Costs

Hi!
Thanks for sharing your itinerary. I would like to know more about travel expenses. How much will it cost me if I stay in KL (perhaps an average cost per day)? Or what particular place in Malaysia should I visit first? It's gonna be my first trip to Malaysia.

Thanks!

Sounds like a nice three weeks :)

Can't add much to imaged itineraries aside from saying going to Kuala Lumpur is a must. How'd you get around during those three weeks - ferry's, flights, other?

travel costs could vary greatly depending on the type of comfort you are aiming for. You could go up to the few hundreds in Ringgit per day if you stayed in high end places or if you choose budget hotels it could be less than a hundred per day.

for food, it's similar too. if you eat out at restaurants with good service and atmosphere expect to pay lots more than if you were to eat at the street hawker stalls.

as for a must visit, I would say it depends on your likes and dislikes. if you like islands, go for Penang/Langkawi during this period. If you come later, after the monsoon, you can venture over to the east coast for islands like Pulau Redang/Perhentian.

reply if you need more info.

have to be honest only ever spent 3 days in KL and wanted out its not the best place on the planet - the hotel was great - but the rip off merchants are in abundance and the novelty wears off sooner rather than later - if you are a partaker of alcoholic beverage give it a miss it will cost you an arm and a leg or two or three - Altough to balance - I was looking forward to Thailand which may have an influence as I just wanted to get there - having said that - the peeps in Thailand are a lot nicer whilst they rip you off - you would never know it had happened until told sometimes - but once street aware and localised its OK but does not beat BKK PKT etc etc

Default My 5 cents worth

hey there,
if you want to hang out in KL for 4-5 days , you may want to visit these places

Sunway Lagoon- great water theme park with roller coasters. Great bars to hang out at night as well. Theres also a big mall beside it with countless fast-food and restaurant outlets!
(i loved the krispykreme donuts i got from there)

Genting Highlands - well-known for 1)casinos 2) Themepark 3) cool relaxing atmosphere

Chinatown - in the heart of KL - good food and cheap fake goods

Berjaya Times Square - Cool indoor themepark! Largest shopping mall in Malaysia

Petronas Twin Towers - Once the tallest structure in the world

hope this helped

Kuala Lumpur(2-3 days)
Taman Negara (3-4 days)
Perhentian Island (3-4 days)
Penang (2 days)
Kuala Lumpur (2 days; including a day trip to Melaka)
Sandakan(3-4 days)
Tawau (2-3 days)
Kota Kinabalu (3 days)

Kuching (3 days)

Off to next destination.
