Default Yokohama to Osaka

1) Would the 2 week rail pass cover my trip from Yokohama to Osaka?
2) If not, how much would it cost for an additional ticket for this trip?
3) Not sure if anyone here would know, but are there any specific things along this route that a car lover should stop to see?

Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the Travel Forum!

The two week Japan rail pass would cover Yokohama to Osaka by Shinkansen (bullet train). The journey is fabulous - you'll go past Mount Fuji, although it'll be covered by cloud! - and you won't believe how smooth the ride is at that tremendous speed. Note that there are a few exceptions with the Japan Rail Pass... for instance, you are not allowed to take the very high-speed "Nozomi" trains. You are fine to take the Kodama, Hikari, Rail-Star and other trains that ply that route.

Is this the only journey you wish to take during your two weeks? If so, just buying individual journey tickets might work out cheaper than a two-week pass. It depends how much travelling you intend to do. What is your itinerary?

Assuming you'll be buying the JR (Japan Rail) pass, there are a few restrictions. None of these, however, will stop you from taking a train from Yokohama to Osaka. Here are the restrictions:

Cannot use any private train lines such as Odakyu or Kintetsu.
Cannot use overnight trains and the Metro underground network.*
Cannot use one class of bullet train called "Nozomi".

* There are 2 underground networks in Tokyo: Tokyo Metro and Toei.

So, as long as you avoid the Nozomi, your rail pass wil be fine.

The price will change depending on when you travel. The basic 1-way fare from Yokohama to Osaka is around $100 and I believe that includes a seat reservation. Extra charges will apply in the "regular" season. Check this site for details.

Lastly, don't bother with the green car (first class) tickets. Ordinary class is amazingly comfortable. I'm 6'3" and I can't touch the seat in front with my legs outstretched
