Default What to do in Tokyo

I'm thinking about traveling to Tokyo. Does anyone have any tips on what I could do there? Is this a city worth visiting?

Visit gardens, parks and museums. Many of them offer free entry.
Take a day trip to Nikko National Park. It is popular for its shrines, mountain landscapes, lakes, waterfalls.
Enjoy views of Mt Fuji and cruising in Lake Ashi
Explore the areas of Shinjuku, Ginza and Akihabara and Shibuya

I spent 2 weeks in Tokyo and loved it. Can't wait to go back! :)

There is so much to do. The subway system is fantastic and an attraction in intself (well, it was for me!) If you want an experience you won't forget then take a subway ride into Shibuya, Tokyo or Roppongi at about 8am :p

Further to the above recommendations you can get a great view of Tokyo from Mori Tower in Roppongi. Tokyo disneyworld is out near Daibo if i remember correctly, along with a host of other interesting museums and such.

Asakusa holds many temples and good places to find souveniers along with the main hub for river travel/tours. Many lovely gardens with long history behind them can be found along the river and tickets can be purchased inclusive with ferry tickets.

Mount Fuji is a brief and enjoyable shinkanssen (bullet train) ride from Tokyo and well worth a visit on a clear day.

All in all Tokyo is one of the most amazing places i've ever been and can't recommend it enough. Have a great time!

When is a good time of year to go there. In terms of weather and not being chock-full of tourists?

Usually the "best time to visit" and being chok full of tourists are one and the same, regardless of the destination. For example Tokyo is particularly stunning at the end of March/beginning of April when Hanami (cherry blossom season) is in full swing. But adversly you will be surrounded by visitors. That being said, and with around 36 million people living in the greater Tokyo area, you are rarely alone in Tokyo! It's a busy old place.

Good climate is also a personal thing. Mid-summer is very hot and humid (July/August) with June being the wetter "rainy season". I was there last June and as i am from the UK it did not feel excessively wet to me. There isn't really a bad time to visit. If you don't get on with hot/humid then probablty best to avoid mid-summer. Also worth trying to avoid the Golden Week (end of April - beginning of May) as lots of things are closed.

Default Japan

I have never been to Japan so far, but my husband had a work travel there and was so amazed that he is still talking about the wonderful impression! The gardens, the cuisine... everything, so we are planning to have a trip there next year, but still are not sure if we are going with or without the kids...
