Kathatani Phuket Resort - Bhuri wing
Hello,
I never feel so much ripped off in my life so I would like to warn others. This Kathatani Beach Resort in Phuket is actually 2 different resorts, the Kathatani wing which is located by the beach and from where all the pictures on the Internet are coming from and Bhuri wing which is located behind the street that runs along the beach. Bhuri has a few chairs in a garden beside the beach but no access to the beach, luckly somone put some sand bags so people can jump the fence and access the beach. I used booking.com in September to book for a week in November. On the site they said that cancellation was free before Oct. 29th but when they sent me the confirmation email it stated that it cannot be cancelled and if cancelled the entire amount will be charged (they got my visa right). I still wanted to go and didn't want to add more stress to the whole story, I was dealing with warnings of floods in Bangkok and many other issues. I said that at $250 a night it cannot be bad. As we arrived the receptionist was the rudest person I met in Thailand. I asked her if there are resort chairs by the beach and she rised her voice telling me that there are but the beach is not private and I have to pay. She repeated this “you have to pay” many times as a matter of fact. We then got to the room, the smell of paint was unbearable, they told us that it has just been renovated. I don’t understand why, all the furniture and sliding pannels are made out of pressed wood shavings, the floor is made out of linoleum pvc, there is a couch right under the TV but can’t be used since is occupied by polyester cushions, why would I like to sit on a couch that face my bed anyway? Distance between bed and couch 30 inches, just enough o pass by. The furniture and design are cheap and poor. The sliding doors where not even painted and they didn't close completely to separate the bathroom and toilettes from the rest of the room. I asked for another room, they give me a room on another wing beside Bhuri which was runndown, dirthy and very small. I had to go back to the smelly room since they said they don't have any other room available which was not true. I had to keep the fan on all the time to be able to breath and it was very noisy.
There is a resort bar by the beach where I ordered a coffee which is 90 thai baths, the waiter din’t bother the ask me if I want any change, not that I did but still… All my stay there I had this feeling that everybody whants you to pay as much as possible, as I was not already feeling totally ripped off for the price I payed for the room. I coud have booked any 5* hotel in Pathong and Karoon beach cheaper. So value for my money is "0".
