Default Agoda Problems

Couple months ago my father booked a hotel room in Singapore through Agoda. (We live in Makassar Indonesia. The purpose of the trip was to attend a business meeting). Agoda said it had been confirmed, but upon arrival my father wasn't allowed to stay in the hotel.
Apparently the room my father booked wasn't real, there were no such room they said, so my father left to find another hotel.

He got late into the meeting, they had to postponed the meeting to later that night and then the next day in the morning. I think it was a humiliating event, and he is really upset. Also there were other costs like taxi fares he had to pay to find another hotel (its a foreign city and he had little knowledge of where the hotels are nor their prices).

We had asked for compensations for both tangible and intangible damages. But agoda only paid back the booking fee. This is not fair I think, wouldn't anyone agree?

Hmmm... thanks for the heads up, but I've used Agoda dozens of times and never had a problem... I will keep using them so long as they are the cheapest.

Angry agoda problems

Hi,
I have found Agoda to be very good in Singapore. So sorry to hear of the problems with your father.

[b]I booked accomodation though Agoda and when we arrived at the Hotel three weeks ago there was no booking and Agoda had taken the money out of our account###
I have emailed them four times ...but no reply..so now we have to try and get our money back through our Bank.
Not happy ...would never book through them again !!!!!

I have used Agoa on several occasions when travelling to Bali with no problems, but I always check the hotel websites if possible to determine their accomodation rates to that offered by Agoda and have sometimes come across wildly differing prices on the hotel site and Agoda one example was last November when Agoda were advertising the 101Hotel on jl Legian at something like AU$ 550 per night where the 101 site was quoting around AU$ 65 per night for the same room so it does pay to double check .

Default Check Agoda Carefully

Hi,

Had a problem with the Thailand office of Agoda during my last trip with hidden charges. Extras were added after I clicked the pay button. OK they were displayed but nowhere near prominently and way after all other charges were shown. Very careful scrutiny of all pages is recommended.

Could not find a phone number for then to complain so spoke to the owner of my guest house and they rang on my behalf. Agoda would not speak with them but the GH owner gave me the number. Almost immediately the taxes I had paid were refunded, however some extras were not deleted - but it paid to complain.

It is fine to say you never had any and that you will keep using them. People here print their experiences and comments like this makes one wonder if it is worth doing that. I have used them and not had problems but once I did and it took ages to sort out what was their fault in the first place. You keep using them, I will keep complaining when I feel it is necessary.

Of course it's worth listing your experiences here. For the record, I now use hotels.com instead because they are competely transparent about their pricing. The price I see on the site is the price I pay, unlike Agoda which adds on taxes at the end, which I find misleading.

As an independent hotel operator, I can tell you that you ned to add at least 20-21% on top of the agoda price to end up with the actual price. Hotels won't usually give you the breakdown of the invoice since they're actually dealing directly with agoda instead of with you as the hotel guest. The invoice that the hotel has (for Agoda not for you) will be totally different to whatever price you pay on Agoda, so that's the main reason.

Whereas Booking.com is better since you deal directly with the hotel and Booking.com acts as a third party. You can get your full invoice. Also, the price on booking.com is really what the price you pay (so it's not deceptively cheap as in what you find in Agoda website).

Additionally, the hotels themselves can set cancellation and booking policies on Agoda. Also, if the hotels can't provide you with a room even though you have a voucher from Agoda that means that hotel is playing truant and by not making a reservation for you on the local reservation system.

Anyway, both booking.com and agoda are owned by Priceline, so we're all making Priceline richer :).

Hi,
I am working mainly in Germany as a sales manager and need to stay min. 3-4 nights a week in german hotels (business-stay) during my travel.
For that reason, I need an invoice incl. tax-rate and tax-percentage or I get in trouble with our bookkeeping.
With 2 hotels(TRYP-hotel + RADISSON INN-hotel) I had a lot of stress,because
they didn't gave me any invoice(answer:"your room is already payed by Agoda
and on their webside you can print the needed invoice(in US-Dollar without any tax-declaration) by yourselve").
These bad experiences and the fact, that you couldn't see via Internet, if there will be a problem with the invoice, are the reasons, why I don't book anymore for business-stay via Agoda.
I even tried, to contact Agoda several times via email and phone, but never received any answer (= not customerfriendly...).
For several other bookings(10-12) I haven't had problems with the invoice
(I could pay with check-in and received my invoice, incl.tax immediately).
If Agoda is reading this message, maybe they change something in the arrangements with TRYP,RADISSON,etc., so that me and many other business-travellers will have fun while booking via Agoda...
best regards
ReWiZa
