Thumbs up Introduce Yourself!

I thought it would be nice to start an "introductions" thread for any new members who join the Travel Forum community. If you've just registered, please tell us a little bit about yourself in this thread so we can get to know you!

I guess I'd better start, then? I'm Steve, and I'm the new owner of travelforum.org, having taken over the mantle from Mark, the original owner. I'm passionate about travel and about South East Asia in general, having spent over two of the last four years trotting the globe, the majority of it spent in Asia.

For the meantime I've settled back into my armchair in the United Kingdom, but I hope to be back over to SE Asia some time next year for a prolonged trip. In the meantime, I'm hoping this forum will be a good outlet for my wanderlust! I really enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences with others and encouraging people to travel, so taking on this forum is the ideal role for me.

That's enough about me... tell me about you!

Hi steve--thanks for the intro. I'm an airline spouse. Husband is INTNL captain based in NYC. We live in Kentucky. We travel alot w/pref's for eastern EU, South Africa.
2+ trips to Asia--I love the perks of airline industry--little bit of Thailand and Bali, w/layovers in ICN and NRT (working trip to S.China once)
Wanting to do more Asia travel in future--it's SOOOO far for us!
I like the luxe part of travel so I buy alot of pkgs at luxurylink.com and contribute often to their community.
I know how to travel "dirty", but not my fave!! (must be getting old and spoiled)
We have several trips scheduledfor the next year already--Budapest this month, Cairo/Giza Feb and maybe HKG llate spring. Trying to decide about fall 2010--pending airline standby options (oh, yeah, that can be STRESSFUL but cheap!!)
That's my story and I'm stickin to it!
Shel

Hi Steve, I am based in the United States and I travel to Thailand a month out of every year and been doing so since 2004. I have been married for nineteen years to a Thai women who I met here in the States and took me ten years before taking my first trip to Thailand. When we go to Thailand we usually spend a week with the family and the rest touring the country. On my trips I have seen much of Thailand, from North to South and East to West. My wife and myself, or maybe I should again say my wife has purchased two homes in Thailand, one in the NorthEast where she is originally from and the other currently being built in Koh Chang. I myself would have preferred Koh Samui or down south in Krabi, but my wife preferred Koh Chang so Koh Chang it was. Anyways thats my intro, and I hope to share some of my stories in the near future, I am going back real soon, so that shouldn't be so far away.

Default Introduce Yourself

Hello Steve,
A quick introduction from myself. I have been travelling to Asia for the past 20 years including Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Singapore and Thailand. I now find myself going back to Thailand twice or three times a year covering most areas, but 'specialising' on the Andaman Coast area. Here I have made many friends and have made some modest investments.
I moved to Travelforum.org after becoming totally frustrated, disgusted and dissolusioned with another travel forum, whose name I shall not mention!
Travelforum is like a breath of fresh air in comparison and I hope you will continue with this tradition.

Hello Steve,
I have enjoyed travel for the past thirty years and it is only the lack of $ that stops us these days, although we do go to Bali each year as it is not so far away from our home in New Zealand.
Our eldest son moved to the United States in 1985 so we would visit each year and then go on to Europe as it was not so far from the east coast, Washington DC where he was living. We eventually tired of travelling through the USA and would meet up in Hawaii which was half way for all of us. He is now living with his family in Dresden so we endeavour to visit Europe every second year. This suits us as it is easy to stop over in Asia on the way and back home from Europe.
Bali is the place that we love to return to; our first visit was in 1974 and we were hooked. We went again in 1978 and then in 85, 90, and since 1995 have been going each year, and occasionally twice a year.
At the moment I am in the process of writing a piece about why I love Bali, this is mainly for my friends who cannot understand why we continue to go there each year, some of them have not enjoyed their visits, have been put off by the constant hasseling to buy, and do not look past the usual tourist areas of Kuta and Nusa Dua.
Anyway Steve, I will be logging into this forum from now on, and adding my own thoughts. I have a number of photographs which we took on our first visit, and if you are interested I could post some of them. It is particularly interesting to see the street scene in the seventies with donkey and cart, bicycles, and very few cars or motor cycles.
Our last visit was in June with our daughter Deanna and her husband Marcel as well as my sister and her husband. We stayed in Sanur, Seminyak, Candidasa and Padangbai, as well as our favourite place Ubud. This was our first stay in Padangbai and we spent a few days at a new resort on the top of the hill called Bloo Lagoon, this was delightful and we particularly enjoyed going to the Blue Lagoon beach each day. I gather that you spent most of your time around Thailand - we really enjoy this country and have visited about seven times. Climate wise Bali is preferable for us as the best time to visit Thailand is November to April, and this is when we enjoy living in New Zealand as it is our summer. We always like to go away during our winter which is from May to November, and Bali's temperature is best during our winter months June, July August, September. Anyway that is enought for the moment. Good Luck to you with the forum.

Hello!
I´ve always liked travelling, but I used to travel in Europe before. About one year ago I decided to visit Thailand. I´ve been living in Phuket two months now... and I absolutely love it! If you haven´t been here then I recommend to come and if you´ve been here then you probably want to come back. I have my ticket back home next year, but I wil not go back :D
If anybody´s planning to visit Phuket and have questions or need some help then I would be happy to help!

Thanks Steve, it worked well.
Hello everyone. Onemore here.
I work on an Oil Rig in West Africa, and spend the majority of my time off in Asia, specifically Singapore and Thailand.
My partner and I are off to Bali to spend my month off, so as we are both first timers there we are really looking forward to it.

I found this forum when I was researching hotels in Asia and came across some threads about the "Accor" advantage plus program, luckily I read the posts because I was just about to go down to my cabin and get my credit card and sign up for it, so a big thanks to everyone on that one.
I should have know better about Accor as my daughter worked them for a few years and did give me input on the services, or lack of , that they provide.
Back to work!
Cheers Everyone,
Mike
