Hello everyone,
newbie here, i'm from penang and an engineer in healthcare engineering. I luv travelling around asia, but due to work and family commitment, had to wait until my kids grown up and now in my fifties so a bit more relax. I've been to Japan,South Thailand, Singapore and will be going to bangkok in early january 2010. Have travelled in most of West malaysia but still like Penang best, especially the food. If anyone needs more info on Penang, will be glad to assist.
I found this forum very useful and like to extend my thanks to all contributors and especially Steve for the loads of info that can be access here.

A warm welcome, Michael. I've visited Penang twice and it seems like a lovely little place to settle. Ask away if you need any advice for your forthcoming trip; we're blessed with having many friendly and knowledgeable people frequenting these forums. And any input you could possibly give on the Malaysia Travel Forum would be much appreciated!
Safe travels,
Steve

Hi there everyone,
I just discovered this site and I thought I might be able to contribute something here. I'm a Malaysian from Ipoh, a small town (though it has city status) about 2 hrs by car north of Kuala Lumpur. I love travelling and I'm trying to travel as much as I can before I need a walking stick to get around! I've been to the US, the UK, some European countries, Australia, New Zealand, some parts of China and some neighbouring countries. There are still lots of places I'd love to visit. Unfortunately, it's getting terribly expensive for us Malaysians to travel with our 'ringgit' - Malaysian currency. That's why lately I've been only going to places that our local budget airline flies to.
I'm sure I'll be able to get a lot of advice from your members on my future trips and I'd be glad to give tips on food, accommodation & things to do of the places I've been.
Looking forward to a great time here.

Jensy88,
A warm welcome to you! If you're a travel addict, you've come to the right place :D I look forward to your insider tips on Malaysia and the rest of SE Asia and hope we can also help you out with advice and recommendations for your travels as well. Even though this forum is South East Asia focused, feel free to ask any queries about UK/Europe, Australia and so on in this General Chat forum, as we have good numbers of contingents from both willing to help
Kind Regards,
Steve

New to the forums here. Will be traveling to Bangkok for the first time next year and plan to bum around SE Asia for a good length of time before moving on to either Korea or China (likely ESL stint, but who knows?).
Hoping to meet some interesting people, get and share insights and generally contribute something positive to the human race vis-a-vie this here forums :)
