Default Mark - where are you?

You've been very quiet lately, have we done something to upset you?

Maybe you are just working hard on new ways to improve an already brilliant forum!

Or.........you are keeping a low profile until the 1st December - cheers!

Wink Hi Alison

Actually I have been kind of busy in Spain recently, as we bought a house there (near Santiago de Compostela, a truly beautiful town / city). We were going to buy somewhere in a warmer winter clime but happened across this one place and fell in love with it. So now we have to decide whether to a) do it up and sell it on at a profit, b) sell our place in Portugal (both these options then more than give us the chance to do something somewhere else), or c) keep both (there are benefits to having a place either side of the border). So I have been out a bit! The detox month? Aaaaggghhh! Still on it yes, but G the temptation yesterday when I bought a lot of one of my favorite Cava's and Rioja Reserva's at really low sale prices at a hypermarket in Vigo (Spain) - great seafood restaurants . It is a bit cold right now for the Cava BUT oh man I could have murdered a glass or 6 of Rioja when I got back yesterday!

Thanks for your kind comments BTW, I wish I had more time to do more on my travel sites but.........

Not long to go now until the end of the month. I can mange one a night now. Wine just is doing nothing for me at all and i would be surprised if i go back to it. When i think of the dozens, hundreds and thousands of bottles i have drunk as well.
Keeping busy trying to find clothes that fit me! put a pair of trousers on the other day and they just fell down!

Has the operation affected how you look at food and drink? I appreciate that it has stopped you partaking so much as you feel fuller on much less but I am curious as to whether it really turns you off certain things?

Sorry to be nosey but I am interested especially as you say you can't face wine and so wondered what caused this.

Whatever - if the pounds drop off (and the trousers) who cares!

The wine tastes really alcoholly if you know what I mean and not wanting it is a lot better than not being able to have it. I have only a limited "space" so I have to make choices. i can't drink and eat at the same time.
I have to eat very slowly and realise when I am full that is usually after a small bowl full.
i am managing to eat most things and that is after just 4 weeks out. Not had white bread but that won't do me any harm. Make sure that i get my protiens in for example for lunch i have had few strips of cooked chicken. 2 walnuts and a couple of slices of fresh pineapple. i am trying to make it that everything the I eat is quality fresh and pref organic as i am eating so little.
i am 33 pounds down now after 4 weeks
i don't think that you are being nosy at all and more than glad to share if you are interested.

It sounds as if you are doing really well and eating all the healthy stuff. If the choice is between eating and drinking it's a no brainer!

A friend of mine had an operation a few years ago to reduce his stomach size as he had long term health concerns. The motivation was that his wife had breast cancer, now in remission, and if anything had happened to her then he had two children under 11 to look after and so needed to be sure he was around.

He had something done to the intestinal tubes (didn't ask too many questions!) and lost several stones quite quickly. He now says it was the best thing he ever did and has completely changed his eating habits.

Strangely enough, he went to a hospital in the North West to have it done and he lived near me in Herefordshire so obviously a good reputation up there.

That sounds very much like the by pass that i have had done. What happens is they make your stomach about the size of a golf ball. They then bypass an amount of intestenial track. This is the bit that takes ou the nutrients this is the reason that you have to be on nutritional supplements for life. They then reattach this further down.
they dont fully understan why in most cases of type 2 diabetes this stops the need for insullin. I have not taken any since the morning of the operation.
I was on a 100 units a day byetta another injectable medication and tablets and my blood glucose was still tripple what it should have been !
I am now down to nearer normal readings with hust some medication. insullin piles on weight in type 2 people so the more you take the bigge you become and the bigger you become the more you need. can't win in that situation.
i am feling good and hope that it is the best decision that I made. i fought for 4 years for the funding from the PCT for the op.
