Unhappy Hmmmm, January

Hi
Having booked my flight to Bali I now think I am regretting it. I have just checked the historical climatic data for Bali for this month and it look like a will be taking a day long shower or two. Why do I do such stupid things? Why do I think I should now kick myself? Someone tell me not to!

Anyone recommend a beachy hotel with a good roof and courtesy umbrellas?

Look on the bright side (if you get to see the sun), it will be lovely and green

Anyway, all is not lost. First, it may well tip it down in January but it will make the air fresh and so what..........

If you are really looking to get as close to guaranteed as you can this day and climate changing age, maybe get a hotel in Amed; the driest (and hotest) beach area (with hotels) in Bali pretty much, or Tulamben, but that is very much a diver's location. The north coast generally starts to get its rain in December, much later than the south, so there is no sanctuary for you in Lovina for example. Be warned if you decide on Amded though, it is still very humid there and with the heat, you will get pretty warm and perhaps you need to make sure the room has tip top aircon for you (generator back up also if the power black outs are still a problem then - they often turn off the power to rotating or less important areas when demand outstrips supply).

I think it truly depends also on what you want do while on holiday. If you want to go shopping or surfing for example, there is not much point in going to Amed. So maybe you should think o that first before deciding on the area and maybe be prepared to dive into the nearest doorway when the tidal showers hit!

Oh God, I remember taking my parents to Bali once. We went to Ubud and decided to eat at Casa Luna; my parents got soaked just getting from the car to the restaurant entrance and I stopped right outside. I got so wet having to park and then walk from up the road, I squeaked when I walked for a week; I had never seen rain that thick before. Sometimes though during the day, the sky is beautiful when the huge rain clouds move through.

The rice loves the rain!

Default January in Bali

I've been to Bali may times. Stayed in that area for 8 months the first time. No worries about the rain in January. It's lovely all year round, because its so close to the equator. It doesn't have monsoons like in Thailand and other parts of SE Asia. Here's what to exspect in January. Sunny and warm from 6am to around 12-1pm. Then rain from about 1 to 3pm, Sun comes out again and its warm until sunset. Its warm and lovely the whole time. Just duck into the nearest bar or restaurant have a cold drink, and the rains over before you know it

I second that!!! I've been to Bali during most every month of the year....certainly there is more rain that time of the year, but like the guest poster says...the rain doesn't last long, it is still very warm, and the rain is a relief as it cools the air, it's much more uncomfortable humidity wise if it only threatens to rain...... and that's a good excuse to relax with a cold Bintang...You'll have a wonderful time, relax, hang loose and welcome the rain as an excuse to do nothing for a few hours....sometimes we forget on vacation to have down time....we have a tendancy to want to fill every hour with activity...I wish I were going too!!!
