Hi All,

in Bali next week and unfortunately will probably have to be phoning back to Oz to keep business running smoothly (I know, boring, boring). In the past I have just roamed on my Oz sim card and avoided phoning out, just receive. This time I can see the need to phone out and it is very expensive via the Oz sim card (5 or 10 dollars a minute). Anyone know if local sims in Bali can ring back to Oz and how much this costs?

As far as I know it can be done with a local sim card as you can certainly sms. Can you arrange for people to call you back from Australia landline to Bali landline? It seems to be cheaper if you call to Bali than from Bali. Also, could you purchase a phone card in Bali? I use one here to call to Bali and it's very economical. Any mobile calls seem to be very expensive.

Speedypin. Hope the link works. It's about 47cents per minute on a land line (Bali to Australia) and about 87cents per minute from a mobile phone.

I just came back from bali, like you I had to ring home.So i brought an XL brand sim card from the shopnext to the Bintang supermarket.
I was texting and ring Australia for the whole month I was there. All up I probably only spent about 500.000 rupiah to buy the card and top it up. I will never use my Oz global roaming again when I am in Bali

is if you are going to get a Bali Sim card whilst you are there make sure your Aussie Mobile is unlocked or it wont work. If your Aussie provider unlocks your phone make sure you get the pin number because you will need it once you stick a Bali Sim card in it. It will take anywhere up toa fortnight to get you phone unlocked depending on your provider.

Have a gr8 trip.

We carry a spare phone in Bali with a local sim card and on my last trip a few weeks ago I got a sim card by a new company (sorry I dont have the name) I was supplied with a different prefix code to the norm to access Aussie and the rate was about half of the usual indo carriers. I got my sim from the phone shop near the Bintang supermarket siminyak, but all shops would have them - good luck
