Default Feedback on my lodging choices

Hello all!

I'm a travel forum junkie. I do a lot of traveling, and I've learned more from the helpful folks on travel forums than I ever have from any guidebooks.

I'm currently planning a three-week trip to Bali in September with my Mom. I've never been there, so I'm doing a massive amount of research. I'm planning on splitting the trip up three ways -- a week at a beach resort, a week at a dive resort (I'm big into scuba diving) and a week in Ubud.

I'm coming down to the wire in terms of locking in my choices, but I wanted to get some feedback from some knowledgeable people about the places I'm considering.

The one I have the most concerns about is Resor Seminyak. I'm looking for a nice resort in the Legian/Seminyak area that is reasonably close to restaurants/shopping etc, but not too close to the craziness of Kuta. I'd like to find a place that will have some action going on -- I'm not looking for quiet romance, because, well, I'm traveling with my Mom! But I'm also not looking for a bunch of drunk twenty-somethings (sadly, I'm a bit removed from that demographic). For that first week we'd like to settle in to Bali in a comfortable resort environment that isn't too "Americanized", and where we might meet some fellow travelers and make a few friends. Do you think that the Resor Seminyak will meet those objectives? Or are there other places you might recommend in that budget range? (I'd stay at the Oberoi, but unfortunately that's out of the budget!)

The second week I've booked us at the Mimpi Menjangan. I've read that the best scuba diving can be found there...and it appears that there will be enough there for my Mom to do while I'm out diving. Any comments on that place?

The third week we're at the Tegal Sari in Ubud. I haven't read a bad review of this place, so I'm not too concerned, but I'm certainly open to any feedback.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

LeeAnne

Haven't stayed at Resor but have stayed at Kumala Pantai which is great value for money, good breakfast, lots of good restaurants close by and a lot more within walking distance. Opposite the beach. Far enough away from Kuta.

Wherever you stay, have a great trip,
Colleen

I can highly recomend the following Hotel
SARI BUNGA. The hotel is in Legian on Double six street. Despite it location the hotel. It is very clean lovley rooms and it has a pool, hot and cold water with air con. Including brekfast it works out at £10 per room per night so £5 each or $10us.

Thanks for the feedback! I checked out the places. Kumala Pantai looks nice, but I prefer to be on the beach. Sari Bunga is a little too low budget for my tastes. I did decide not to stay at the Resor Seminyak however...they wanted to charge me a high-season surcharge for the middle of September! I haven't seen any other hotels doing that. So I've switched to the Santika Beach Hotel in Tuban, which is also right on the beach. Anyone been to the Santika?

Thanks!

LeeAnne
