I doubt you will be able to hire a scooter in Tulamben and there has been no such thing as motor bike insurance in Indonesia for about 3 or 4 years now. A car is your best bet. What I would do though is get a driver - there are plenty around, as they would take the heat (less heat being Balinese) in any accident. There are quite a few drivers around the Amed area, I am sure you will have no problem. I know a guy who lives in Sambirenteng (about an hour away) who likes jobs in the north as he otherwise has to ply the Nusa Dua area and does not get to see his family then. As a general rule, the guys who work the south will have better vehicles as they make more money. If you rent a car I suggest the people at the airport end of Jl Legian in Kuta, on the left hand side just before you hit the crossroads; I think they rent bikes as well. Make sure you have 10,000rp separate from the rest of your money in case the police stop you for an on the spot without receipt fine for a traffic offence you know you did not commit; then you can claim that is all you have on you.

Hi Mark

Yep no what you mean, just that i will be based in Tulamben for 10 days and will need scooter to meet around at some divesites and in Amed too.

Want to go down to Menjangan Island thought cheapest way car as i would have pay a driver one day Tulamben to Menjangan one day other day back to Tulamben.

How much for driver Tul to Men to take me there and bring me back later if i just spent the day there.

or how much just to take me there, thats why i thought about a car for a couple days, the driver in Amed you mention how much would he charge.

Yep i only carry 10,000 RP at all times ha ha

I did imagine Amed would be nearest place to get either.

Thanks for your reply.

300,000rp per day I think is the going low rate. But I would pay more to get the driver without sight impediment and a car with air con and brakes. Tulamben to Menjangan? Yuck, that is a long 4 hour drive each way. Why not do Tulamben and Pemuteran (near to Menjangan)?

Default Hi Paul - Driver Recommendation

I've already typed this message but hit some button on the keyboard and seemed to have lost the lot. Apologies if I'm posting this twice.

If you decided to hire a driver you might like to contact Made Menthol:

HP (Mobile No.) +62 81 647 08566

His English is excellent and he his very reliable and honest. I have just received an SMS message from Made Menthol begging for any work or customers that I can send to him. Things are really tough in Bali for just about everyone.

Made will arrange a vehicle and driver and act as a guide and gofer. It will not cost more than driver only. He can also organize anything for you including Money Changing at going rate.

You might like to SMS him for costs. etc.

Good luck

Catherine

@Catherine that driver does he have a email address out of interest.

I have a friend in Legian usually i will get him to take me up to Tulemben for the day when i am going else where in indo and he asks for 250,000/300,000Rp he sits under a palm tree all day and then head back down and i treat him to a meal and a Balanese dancing performance in Ubud in the evening but he is not in Legian first week i arrive.

As we know fuel costs having be rising out there so i am wondering how it would mostly cost just to be taken up there and dropped off.

Thanks

Smile Hi Paul...Made's email

Made's email address is:

Madementhoel@yahoo.com

Just to clarify, the spelling of his name on his business card is 'Menthol' so I'm guessing it's been printed incorrectly. However I SMS'd him for his email and this is what he's sent me. It is pronounced "Montol".

Good luck.

Catherine

Hi there,
Did you end up getting a driver or using the Mentoel reference? Am curious as debating a car rental vs. driver when I want to move from town to other town.
Cheers
