Default Where to stay in Bali?

Hi, Im looking to travel to Bali, but never been there before...
Can anyone recommend a good hotel?
I've found a few I like but I'm not sure if they're too expensive for Bali or if that's a decent price...
I'm looking to travel with my wife and 2 kids next summer

how long? what's your budget? It's not a big island, what interests you? beach, culture, local life, tourist areas?

It all depends on your budget. If you haven't been to Bali before, it is best for you to find out as much as you can about Bali. There are literally thousands of places to stay, rated from no star to international hotels.

If you have a flexible budget, I would recommend get a hotel with 3 stars or more, and before making any decision, it is always wise to read reviews from other travelers about the accommodations.

Bottom line is, always make decision once you do a little bit of research, just don't be over paranoid. It is a holiday afterall :)

Have fun!

Seminyak is a good place to start with, lots of great cafes, shops, restaurants and bars. It is a little hectic, but at least you can go to the beach for some relaxation. (note the beach is not anything special)
Ubud has amazing food and is very tranquil.

Stay clear of Legion and Kuta.

If you like shopping, Kuta or Seminyak is good. If you look for a quiet place, maybe Sanur is better. There are many private villas in Sanur area. But if you're interested in art, galleries, rice field view, you should go to Ubud. It's not difficult to find restaurant or cafe or mini market in those areas. And if you plan to stay a little bit longer, you can look for a villa,it's saving your money.
Thanks.

We are heading to Bali this year for change from Thailand as we have never been there. Staying 10 nights at The Lokha as there are just the 2 of us. Friends who go with children stay at the Melasti.

We stayed in Suji Bungalow, it was decent with a nice swimming pool and garden, quite as well although located at the centre of kuta. Only cost us 370000 rp for aircon room.

I stayed at the Hard Rock Bali, which was an amazing experience! A bit more expensive than the surrounding hotels, but it definitely makes up for it in atmosphere!

Default Villa rentals are the best options ....

With kids it's the best options as most villas have babysitters so you can have a holiday too! We have stayed in villas several times.
