Default Ubud - Tjampuan Hotel

Hi all, long time no speak!

We may have a family in tow for our next visit and they think they like the Tjampuan Hotel in Ubud. They are a family - parents and two teenage daughters. Can anyone recommend a room configuration there to suit? Is a/c necessary in April at the Tjampuan?

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

David

Hi David,
We stayed there last year. Ask for a room/s close to the pools. We stayed up near the road and it was noisy. We could hear every word the man in the next room said - so walls very thin. There are some larger rooms down close to the pool and some lovely looking cottages with a couple or rooms. Sorry not sure of numbers. We didnt use the aircon in July.

Bali Palm David

If you like river views with traditional comfortable rooms, you can not beat Cahaya Dewata IMHO; ok, it is out on the Sayan Road but very tranquil and tranpsort is cheap.

Default Cahaya Dewata

Mark, I know it well. Must surely be the best river view in Ubud area if not Bali. The manager there for a long time from its construction was Wayan Tony (as we call him). He moved on to build Villah Indah almost next door. Villa Indah has just been refurbished last year and we visited it for a look through and it is stunning although views not quite on a par with Cahaya Dewata.

Wayan Tony moved up to Negara a several years back and has built a new hotel there as well as being involved in other ventures. (just out of interest)

Regards,

David

Smile I only went in the Tjampuan

as I went walkabout looking for a room in that area. That was a few years back was I was totally unimpressed. Maybe they have improved the room quality since then. We ended up renting a sweet studio just literally a few doors down the road (towards Ubud) from Murnis. It was owned by one of the little shop owners there. I have never seen it advertised anywhere, so it may not exist for rent still, but just went to prove again to me that it pays to physically look around and that going on regular tourists' reports of what is good and what is not really does not pay .

BTW, for a long time my favorite hotel in that general area was Vila Bukit, but I do not know if it is still closed or not. I heard someone bought it to turn into a super luxury hotel (stunning views) but then the downturn in tourism came and they went bust.

Apart from the very steep walkways and being quite a bit out of town, I also rate Ulun Ubud highly - they refurbished the hotel in 2002 / 2003 and it made such a difference.
