Bali Palm general bali questions

hi!
I have been to bali a few times but have some general questions.

I never have ice in my drinks at the hotel or restaurant but i have heard from a few people that it is ok to have - does anyone know if its ok ?

Im probably being paranoid because i really dont want to get sick on our holiday but i also never eat lettuce in salad or broccolli as it may have been washed in water - is this safe to eat? (Brocolli should be ok if its cooked?)

And has anyone been to the biku tea house? it seems like a nice place to go to get a tarot reading and high tea but ive never heard of it.

Sorry about all the questions i just dont want to get sick while were away.

Thanks

Default Ice and food safety

Hi,

The food handling practices have greatly improved over the years and my feeling is that ice and foods such as lettuce are safe. Ice comes from the 'ice factory' and the water used is considered safe i.e. made from bottled or purified water. Salad and vegetables should all be washed in clean water by the restaurants, as they know that tap water is not safe. The cooking process should also eliminate a number of harmful bugs. Many places now purify their own water so many things have improved in the food area.

Trust your instincts and don't eat anything you're unsure of. Choose places to eat that look clean and are well patronized. Wash your hands regularly and before you eat, particularly if you've been out shopping and have touched all manner of things. Dairy products and chicken are often this first foods to spoil in the heat however if they are handled correctly by the restaurant there shouldn't be a problem.
I hope this is helpful and puts your mind at rest.

I don't know biku tea house, but it sounds interesting.

Good luck and enjoy your holiday.

Catherine
