Default Kuningan

Hi everyone,

Has anyone been in Bali for the Kuningan festival??? We will be there this year when it's on and I was interested to see if anyone had any info they'd like to share on something special to do on what I think will be a quiet day for tourists??

Kind regards,
Carolyn

Smile question

Hi,
I havent been to bali when kuningan has been on. Do you know what dates and how long it is on for? We were there for a religious day in oct and most things were closed so we just walked around the hotel area and i think the dept stores were open but not completely sure.
Some market stalls were open along the beach but not alot.
Sorry its not much info. hope you have a great time

Hi

The last Kuningan Day was in May, It is coming every 6 month, so will come in December.

Kuningan - Believed to be the ascendant day of ancestral holy spirits and deities, back to the eternity

for Bali poeple,,,galungan more preferable day..but if you are looking for some festival, why won't you see ngrupuk instead ? they will carry "ogoh ogoh" arround the street and i think that is more attractive.. but the day after will be nyepi... and no activities are allowed...

Kuningan is nothing that will be of much interest to the tourist...it is the holiday that comes every 6 months 10 days after Galungan which are both important for the Balinese (Hindu) as it is a religious time for them with many ceremonies...it takes place primarliy in their temples with lots of offerings...it really won't affect you and there is really nothing to see...at least that's my experience..I've been there many times during these holy days..

The time of year you may want to go would be during Nyepi (it may be misspelled...) I seem to have a mental block as to the spelling of this quiet day...there are festivals and a parade etc. with Ogoh Ogoh (paper mache monsters) they march through the street on the eve and then light on fire...a big celebration, and then on the day the airports are closed no planes are allowed to land in Bali, you must remain in your hotel/compound...there is no one on the streets, employees remain at the hotel and you can't use lights etc.......plus you will see many ceremonies on the beach where they sacrific chichens, etc..(they throw em in the ocean but they come back to the beach) anyway this is interesting ...but not Kuningan..Have a wonderful holiday
