My missus' gold engagement ring (18 carrot) band thingy is starting to get a bit thin and needs re-shanking.

Anyone know of a good place to get this done in Bali? I guess I could just go to Gold Street in Denpassar and scout around but any advance recommendations would be appreciated. Also any idea on cost?

I know very little about gold in Bali. Do the jewellers in Celuk work in gold as well as silver?

I'm also wondering about the "type" of gold. All the gold I've seen in Bali is very yellow so unless the ring came from Bali it might be a different gold/colour.

If the ring has a valuable stone I'd be careful who I left it with. Personally, knowing nothing much about the gold industry and considering the value of the ring, particularly in emotional terms, I'd get it done here. I'm not as 'good' at Bali as you are, lol, so I tend to err on the side of caution in some instances.

I'll be interested to know what you decide and if you go with the Bali option, how you get on.
