Default Time to transfer in Perth

Hi all,
I am going to be visiting Bali from New Zealand. I will be flying Air New Zealand to Perth then Garuda from Perth to Australia. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with transferring between airlines in Perth. Mostly I was wondering how long I need to leave between flights (in my case, taking an evening flight or spending a night in Perth). I am also curious if it is possible to check-in with Garuda without passing through customs, collecting my bag, then checking-in and reclearing security (I'm a Canadian, so I'm wondering if I need to get a transit visa or if I can get by without one).

Thanks for your help.

Default New Zealand to Bali

Are you booked on Garuda flights on both legs or are you flying with one airline New Zealand to Perth and then transferring to a Garuda flight? You are best to check with the airlines for flight details.

It seems you will be travelling on international flights for both legs of your journey so there should be no transfer between the international and domestic terminals at Perth. If they are international flights you can probably go through customs in NZ and check your luggage through from NZ to Bali. If you are changing airlines at Perth I'd allow at least a couple of hours between flights incase of delays out of NZ (if you are booking it all yourself). Sometimes co-ordinating separate journeys is difficult because planes do not always travel at convenient times to link up with other flights.

I understand that all NZ flights to Bali have a stopover somewhere in Australia and you might find that you can travel via Melbourne or Sydney instead of Perth. You should be able to buy a ticket NZ to Bali - is there some reason that you are booking NZ-Perth, Perth-Bali as two separate tickets?

Perhaps making your booking through a travel agent would take a lot of trouble and uncertainty out of your plans. Transit passengers who change planes/make a stop at some point are given a 'transit card' when you leave the first aircraft and you then wait for your next plane in a 'transit area' at the airport with all the other people travelling as you are.

If Perth is only an airport stopover then other Australian cities may be worth looking at instead.

Hope this helps and you can make sense of the above.

Catherine

Default Just re-read your post and...

I see you are on Air NZ first leg. Sorry, I'm still learning to read, write and think. I'm getting better though...
