Hi,

We will visit Lombok mid-August and stay 3 days in Kuta Lombok.
I was planning to rent a motorbike and visit the eastern and western areas around Kuta Lombok but I've read bad stories about tourist security in this area...does anyone have recent information about the actual situation over there?
What is the safest alternative to visit this area?

Stay well away from the guys at Kuta Reef Surf Shop & the Tourist Information. They are the most dishonest, sleezy idiots I have ever come across. Whatever you do don't rent a bike from them or have anyting to do with them. Not only do they rip off & intimidate tourists but they also intimidate & rip off the locals and the ex pats. The local Police won't help if there are any problems as thy are just as corrupt.

Apart from all of that we found that the nicest part of Kuta Lombok was the area near the Mata Hari.

kuta lombok is the trashest place i have ever seen the locals **** on the beaches an crime is high there was 3 rapes in aug.. in day time 2011 an the police did nothing about it ... stay in Bali.... the people here are not ready for us

if u do visit kuta lombok go to air guling beach. it's a beautiful hidden place and it's so nice there. kuta lombok is worth while going, its very tranquil and less touristic
