I take it you are refering to Gili Trawangan (Gili means island so there's a few). Gili Trawangan is the most developed. There is a wide range of accom available from cheap rooms with fans to luxury villas with private pools so all bases are covered. As far as getting there the quickest way is via fastboat direct from Bali (return trip approx 100usd) or you can fly to Lombok & get a boat from there (about the same cost). With only a few days you probably won't have time to see Lombok as well as Gili T but Lombok is certainly worth a look.

Fast boat from Amed on the east coast is about 600 000Rp pp one way. I stayed on Gili Meno- amazing views, great snorkelling-turtles on the reef. Very quiet place. Cheap accommodation.

From Padang Bai Harbour you can cross from mainland Bali to Lombok.
The public ferries leave from here hourly and and take about 4 to 5 hours to cross over to Lembar Harbour, Lombok. A one way ticket is about RP 15,000 per person.

Lembar Harbour is about 1 hour south of Senggigi, Lombok. You catch the ferry in the morning from Padang Bai to Lembar Harbour so you don’t have to stay overnight on Lombok

From Lembar Harbour you take a shuttle bus to Bangsal harbour or take a public transportation (bemo) to Pemenang. Register your name at the ticket office and you will have to wait until the list is full. The boat leaves for Gili when full.
