Default Eating Out

Hi everyone we're off to Bali again and staying at Tegal Sari as usual. I've got a couple of questions that I'm hoping to get answers to.

1. We've never eaten at the Living Room before. Would we need reservations for dinner? Also, would it be a problem getting a cab to take us back to Ubud after dinner? If so, would you suggest booking a driver from Ubud to hang around and wait for us?

2. Any recommendations for eating places in Ubud, especially anything new-ish. We've done the following: Mozaic (and going back again!), Lamak, Warung Enak, Casa Luna, Indus, Batan Waru, Ibu Oka Babi Guling...

Thank you!

Hi Blobbes

I can't really add to your Ubud eateries as they are essentially the ones we have eaten at. There is however a cheap and good local food place very near Tegal Sari which we have enjoyed called Cafe Tegal which you may like to try.

If I was travelling to the Living Room from Ubud, I would hire a driver from Ubud rather than a taxi. Not sure what the cost would be but I think it would be reasonable. My wife and I have used a driver who is resident just up the road from Tegal Sari many times and I know he and other locals would provide that service.

Have a great evening at the Living Room.

Default Good food

Hi Blobbles,
I have just spent a couple of weeks in Ubud so have visited many of the restaurants. One of our favourites is a newish one - the 3 Monkeys just down from Lamak in Monkey Forest Road. Modern decor, great food. Our special favourite is the Tropical Bakery which near Mosaic. Food is exceptional and presentation wonderful. It is not a cheepie. You can have a 3 course meal for 180,000 rupees for a Degustation menu. That just means a lot of sample food. All delicious. Great view over the fields if you go for lunch. I don't know whay people havent discovered this place. Just as good as Mosaic

Hi
I suggest trying Nomad which is not far East of the markets. Last August we found the service, food & wine to be well worth the relatively low prices. Whilst it hasn'r had an ownership change I understand that there is now a French partner or manager involved. It is also a good spot to sit and watch the world go by!

Cheers,

David

Thumbs up I love the Living Room

I am a critic of food generally in Bali, but the Living Room is somewhere special and I would make a reservation, yes. Suggest the frogs legs; really, go Balinese / French and forget the label. You should be OK with taxis and the Living Room as they can organize metered or the other type of cabs. It really is not that long to Tegal Sari anyway.

Hi David
Yes I agree. I forgot about Nomad. The drinks are expensive but it is a good position to see people. Interesting food. Also loved Cafe Moka, for its airconditioning and coffee... and cakes of course.
Wish I was in Ubud now................

Hi Seabreeze
The drinks at Nomad were on the slightly high side but I was very pleased with their choices for house wine, Chilean Merlot and Chilean Sauv Blanc were good in the Bali atmoshere, I usually avoid wine in Bali but it was good value for money compared to the usual on offer.

Cheers,

David

Default thank you

for all your suggestions. We've made reservations for Mozaic and the Living Room, and we're definitely going to squeeze in a babi guling lunch, hehe...
