Default Am going in the morning....

Hi Everyone
Just wanted to share my excitement...

We leave in the morning (Sunday) for Bali... 2 whole weeks of bliss - not peace and quiet as we will have our two 'not-shy' 6 year old daughters with us!!

Am really looking forward to relaxing and doing not too much.
Have got suitcases full with stuff to take over for friends in Bali and stuff for the schools and things - so it should be a great trip.

Will work on the JBR when we get back.

Heres to hoping for no broken bones this time!!

Take Care

Amanda

Wink Sambal Menta

I can currently only dream of the finer things in Bali, plus get the occasional taste when local markets allow; last night was one such time! We found some of the smaller shallots used to make sambal menta (literally “raw salad” although I would not eat it as a salad / on its own). At the same time the supermarket we often use had fresh tuna at their fish counter; I like it when things come together Fresh grilled tuna with sambal menta, mmmmm!

I was not the greatest fan of Balinese / Indonesian food to be honest (too many spices, cooked too long, plus too many places selling food I would not give to my dogs), and frequently avoided the dreaded “Bali belly” by eating nothing but club sandwiches, banana pancakes and fresh fruit while going areas of Bali I did not know and therefore trust! But for me the best grub to be had if and when you find a place you can trust are (in order) 1) Fresh grilled tuna with sambal menta, 2) Gado Gado, 3) Nasi Champur. If you get the chance and find a good restaurant serving all of these, please try them and then come back here to gloat about it to me!

Mark, I guess sambal menta is similar to sambal matah, which I make at home and have found in many of my favourite warung in Ubud. If it is similar I understand your enthusiasm!

Regards,

David

Default Best Gado Gado

And I HATE the normal gado gado.... But the best is at Warung Batavia - or at least a good shot at the real deal. It's at Seminyak and is a bit of an expat hang out but if you go up to the counter they make it from scratch and it is superb. I could live on it. They can also make it more spicy if you like and have this massive mortar and pestle that they mix it up in. Ask in the Seminyak shops where this place is. Get the food to take back to your hotel/house and relax with a cold drink. It is lovely. We also get Warung Batavia to make up platters for us to have for dinner and they are absolutely beautiful to look at, and such a great collection of flavours. All fresh here made each morning. Kids will eat the small chicken sate. We tell ours "peanut buter chicken" and it's very mild and they love it. c

Default Hey Amanda

Great to hear you got back home with no injuries this time.

Hope you and the family had a wounderful time.

Looking forward to your JBR or BBAWR.

Might have a few questions of how you entertained those Twin Girlz.

Larry
