Bali Palm Sheraton Senggigi or Le Meridien Nirwana? Lombok or Bali...?

Hello!
We are planning on visiting either Bali or Lombok in late December/January. I would really appreciate some info on the pros and cons of these islands. We are not there to party, rather snorkel, visiting markets, and exploring nature, and some golf...
The two hotels above are those that we are considering, what do you think?
The Sheraton gets quite mixed reviews, so we don't know what to think.
Any info that You can provide would be very helpful!
Thanks

My family and I stayed at the Sheraton Senggigi. We found it to be very nice. The people at the front desk were very courteous and helpful. The hotel looked beautiful minus a few sunbleached carpets and other worn out looking amenities. The A/C worked excellent and the beds were comfortable.

Bali Palm

Thank You!
A couple of more questions:
How about the beach, is is nice, a lot of people? Ok to snorkel?
Is the hotel located in a real touristy area or is it quite secluded?
Thanks for taking the time to help me!

Wink Bali or Lombok?

Hi there, we travel to Bali and Lombok regularly, I can highly reccommend the Qunci Villas in Lombok, The Sentosa Holiday Resort, The Sheraton and Sengiggi Beach Resort are also very good. Snorkelling is brilliant out on the Gili Islands and easily reached by boat, the hotel will be able to help you arrange this however keep in mind that the water is not as clear in the wet season which is when you will be there, also reef sharks (harmless but not for the faint hearted are about, feeding on the rich planctum) There is a good dive shop in Sengiggi they will be able to advise you there are also heaps of dive shops out on Trawangan Island (1 of the Gili islands). There is plenty to do on Lombok, the people are beautiful and you'll find it very affordable. Lombok is quiet and less touristy that Bali, if you want to shop and party Bali is the place to go, if you want to relax and soak up the sheer beauty of this part of the world, Lombok is the place for you. There are some fabulous restaurants and nightclubs in Sengiggi if you want to get out at night, there is also some amazing art, craft & markets also. If you need a driver while you are there I can highly recommend our driver, however I will have to get back to you with his contact details, my Husband has them in his phone and he's not here right now. Hope this helps.

If you have access to the Starwood American Express Card (tell them you want it first year free--I've seen promos all over but most recently on luxurylink.com) get the card immediately, activate it and get the bonus points they offer (10K?) That will get you free nights at Le Meridienor some others (as avail) and/or book w/points and cash at Lombok Sheraton Senggigi. I just res'd a room for 1000 pts and $25US per night. the LM room was only 3 and 4000K (wkend rate varies) and no cash--all taxes included. They upgrade when possible or for small cash their garden rooms become oceanview ($30/night/upgrade)
Work the perks when you can! Just some hints from a luxury frugal traveler! Champers taste, bintang budget!
