With higher fuel costs these days, can anyone give me the approximate costs I should expect for the following:
1. Taxi from airport to Ubud

2. Taxi for entire day use (8 hours)

3. Taxi for a half day to go from Ubud to Kuta and Tanah Lot and back to Ubud.

I have my driver recommended but I want to make sure I'm not going to under-pay or be too generous.

Hi Darren,

For a driver you will pay about 300,000rp per day. I guess a half day will therefore be half that cost.

As far as a taxi goes the best taxis are the pale blue ones. They are the most reliable and trustworthy as far as rates and meters that have not been tampered with. They are a matt, pale blue colour, known locally as the 'blue taxis'. In the past a taxi fare has been quite comparable with a private driver so you won't be paying a huge difference either way.

With a driver, once you establish the price, you have the freedom of stopping anywhere you like for as long as you like and the price stays the same. The taxi meter is going to be running whether you're stopping off somewhere or not.
