Default Gilis

Larry wants more action on this bit of the forum so here's a question for you. I'm musing about my next wander and was thinking of going to the Gilis before heading off to see if Komodo dragons are really any bigger and badder than the giant monitor lizards on Ko Ngai in Thailand. Several people I've spoken to have said the Gilis are nice. Does anyone have anything to add to the info here? Gili Islands travel guide - Wikitravel.
It mentions jellyfish and I don't have a wetsuit .... just wondering if jellyfish tend to be seasonal like in Thailand? If so, when is the best time of year to avoid them and too much rain. Any other tips welcome too! Thanks in advance.

Default heywood jablomy ....Gilis

Hi, I just tried to reply to your PM but you are blocking them apparently.
(You must have ticked a box saying you don't want to receive PMs or something) Can't help much anyway as I'll be going there after you I'm afraid. Doubt if transport will be very difficult to arrange...the Gilis are a pretty well beaten track tourist destination .... even if no one here seems to have been there! No one's noticed a jellyfish season then?

Default Gilli Islands

Hi there - I went there a few years back. It is the place to go if you want to relax. There's not much else to do there. I quite liked it. I went into shutdown with several books and met some nice people there. There are younger people on T, I stayed on A and loved it. If you want to kick back and relax I would recommend it. We stayed at Hotel Gili Air - think there is a website if you search for it. Never saw jelly fish the whole time but mainly swam in the hotel pool as it was lovely and right on the beach. No fresh water on the island - not for showers, not for cleaning your teeth etc. So it was nice to get back to the Holiday Inn on Lombok for a fresh water shower. Loved it. c

Ah, at last, thanks for the info Carolyn! Doesn't sound like I need to bother buying a wetsuit then, good stuff! I try to keep weight to a minimum in my rucksack as I'm getting a bit old and frail these days.

I will endeavor to do a Just Back Report concerning jellyfish and anything else of general interest when I get back but that might not be for a while I'm afraid. The Gilis will be a luxury rest stop before I head off for Komodo Rinca Flores etc on a leaky ferry. Then, depending on how far I can get on a 2 month tourist visa, was thinking of going back to the Togeans again and if I have time possibly check out the Banda Islands too, using leaky ferries, local buses and the crash prone budget Indonesian airlines. If anyone else is going too, give me a shout. It would be nice to have some company this time. Last year during Ramadan there were hardly any other Western tourists about on Sulawesi.
