Default small is good

It is interesting to see forumites choices as their top hotels. I am wrapped in Tegal Sari and we go there every September. however up to now we have had our little bit of luxury at the Bali Sani for the first week of our usual month.

However like Larry with the Mandira , the Bali Sani has priced us out. So for this coming trip in September we are staying in small hotels for the whole month. In addition to Tegal Sari, we have booked into the Puri Madawai (kerobokan), Anninirakka (Ubud) and Batubleib Beach bungalows .

I am frankly sick of large hotels and am really looking forward to more personalised service from the smaller ones we are going to.

Thats my 2 cents worth and I will post a Just Back Report when we get back about how good these places are.

Default Hotels Bali - just got back

We stayed at Puri Madawai - very nice - clean friendly nice rooms pool view bungalow was great we were right next to it. Very intimate place.

Puri Saraswati in UBUD - beautiful. The room was somewhat small and not what we would consider 4* but the Yudistira room has a back and front balcony with a view of the lotus pond and royal temple as well as the stage. We watched dancing on the stage every night from a distance. Lovely!! Gardens are beautiful and the location was prime! We stayed in the room on the first floor of the bungalow but there is also a second floor - likely with a better view of the temple and lotus pond.

Default Favorite Hotels in Bali

Tough challenge Mark.....
I am over the bigger hotels, but would put the Kumala Pantai as my favorite for value and position. As a surfer it is ideal with the beach breaks out the front. They are building a new wing so not sure how the extra people will affect the laid back feeling at the KP
Number two would be Greenfield Bungalows (next to the Tegal Sari) I stayed there because I couldn't get into TS on one of my visits and loved it
Number three would be Blue Moom Villas at Amed, really top place to stay
I haven't made in to Pemuteran, but keep meaning to get there, so interested in the hotels mentioned in this area.

Mark,
an interesting spin on this from me.... the Tegal Sari is getting good wraps here. When we were in Ubud last October we stayed again at Gerebig Bungalows (as always!!!) and this time had brother and sister in law in tow, also at Gerebig. They have previously stayed at the Tjampuhan in Ubud. This time they had pre booked Tegal Sari for 1 night halfway through the stay. They were sadly let down by the Tegal Sari experience for many reasons, but especially because they had enjoyed Gerebig so much! By the way, they requested some ice at Tegal Sari so they could chill some drinks and were charged for it!

Regards,
David

Unhappy Wow

Hi David
Nothing surprises me any more! People change, become more commercial. Sometimes management changes and then a great place sucks. I will always have a fond place in my heart though for Tegal Sari. I can say with all honesty they are run by some of the nicest people in Bali.
