I've been spending many hours lately planning a three-week trip to Bali in September. After all this research, I just now found this forum, and started reading all of the information on these pages. Wow, what an eye opener. I must say it shook me up and made me consider dropping my plans, but after further reading, I've decided that I'm going to go forward with the trip.
Okay, so I want to be a responsible traveler, and not patronize any businesses in Bali that are considered harmful. I was happy to see that the hotel I'd already booked in Ubud (Tegal Sari) for our third week is on the "approved" list. But we're planning on staying at three different places on the island, and I'm not sure about the others.
I'm already booked at the Mimpi Menjangan for the second weekm and so far I thankfully I haven't read anything negative about it, so I'm hoping it's okay. We're booked there because I'm a scuba diver and they offered a great dive/accomodation package.
I still have my first week to book (I know, I'm doing this backwards). We'd like to spend the first week at a beach resort where we can relax and recover from jet lag, and "settle in" to Bali in a resort environment. Right now I'm torn between Resor Seminyak and the Grand Balisani, both in the Seminyak area. I would like to know if either of these hotels is owned by any of the dreaded bad people I've been reading about, or if they are considered "good" places to stay. I would also love to hear any feedback about how they actually are as resorts! Would anyone recommend one over the other? Does anyone have any other recommendations for nice but affordable resorts in that area?
I'll be traveling with my mother, so I'm not looking for anyplace romantic...just nice and fun, attractive, clean, with stuff to do nearby.
I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!
