Is probably best way. There may be local transport but it's a few hours away from Ubud so my preference would be to hire a car & driver who can come a pick you up at the end of your stay.
My contact there is Made Menthoel, his HP number is +620164708566. Made is 30ish, his english is very good and he's always been reliable and honest. Made has helped us with business in the past and organized a great driver for us, with himself acting as guide/organiser/business co-ordinator. Cost is same as if for driver only with own vehicle. Not sure what that is now as prices have shifted with petrol price hike. Our journey to Amed took us via the back roads and some lovely scenery, stopped at Kintomani for lunch as we were coming from Seminyak. If you decide to contact Made you could tell him that I gave you his number.
