Dont know anyone who has been there recently. Last year we were staying in Tanjung Benoa with our family including grandchildren, and noticed that you could buy a day pass if you wanted to take part in their activities. Of course the best snorkelling is Menjangen Island, I recently saw a website featuring a lovely hotel near the area where the boats go to the island, we had in fact seen it on our return from the island last year. If they have only one week then it makes sense to stay in one place. One area of Bali which would suit both 80 and 20 year olds would be Seminyak - close to shopping, beach, and many restaurants, but also quieter than Legian; but no snorkelling. It is possible to have a day trip to Mengangin Island, worthwhile as the snorkelling is fantastic. I do hope they go, they will love it.
