I have been sent an email with AP's internal spreadsheets (allegedly). It looks like the spreadsheets were "circulated" a couple of weeks ago before the airline's demise and the intimation is that the company collapsed because of fraud; I have not studied the sheets in any detail except for a cursory scan. I can not vouch for what they are (although they appear genuine) or what they say, but as I said they were sent to me on the apparent presumption the original leak of these papers was done by one of their Australian staff when the writing was on the (internal) wall and that there was wrongdoing. If there any accountants who are interested in having a look, please let me know, but be advised I will gladly pass them on only under the basis I can not warrant their authenticity.
As for the rest, it just shows you, I had no idea travel insurance companies preclude airline collapse. For me they are rogues generally for flooding their policies with hundreds of terms which you can not possibly get through or understand. One I had it was clear they put the meaningless garbage at the front in an apparent attempt to stop people from reading what was important.
I hope things work out for you guys. It certainly makes you realize that booking everything through an insured (industry bonded insurance) agent in your home country has many merits. I do not know if they still do but Australian, US and British travel associations used to provide these refund insurance schemes as part of membership. When we next book a holiday I am going to make damn sure everything is covered, so your tale of woe has helped at least one other person, thanks.
