and the main points we came up with were as follows:
1. If going out to eat at night go early,
2. If a place is fairly crowded go somewhere else,
3. Avoid Kuta at night,
4. Eat where the locals eat,
5. A lot of restaurants have home delivery use it,
6. Or if the restaurant is a short walk from where you are staying grab a menu and phone through your order and pick it up your self and eat at home, and
7. Keep ever vigilant.
In relation to points 5 and 6 above this would probably not suit everyone (staying in a small hotel room) but as we are staying in a villa that has lounge, dining and kitchen the take away food option and home delivery works well for us. But in saying that you could also have a nice takeaway dinner on your patio or balcony. Also with the small kitchen we can cook the kiddies some instant noodles early on and if they crash we can still have a nice takeaway dinner in the villa, enjoying a duty free drink or two and a new release dvd, followed by a dip in the pool - it does not get much better thatn that.
I am also travelling with a young family and am a little concerned but I don't want these idiots spoiling my yearly vacation to my most favourite place on the planet.
Would like to hear from anyone else who has some tips in eating out at night.
