that Ubud would be a better choice. Lovina is a little isolated, the beach is not so good and it is more difficult to get transport. Permuteran is better as far as beach goes, but once again not many restaurants and difficult to get transport. When we were in Ubud last June, our son stayed in a small place opposite us in Santika Garden on Jalan Bisma for 70,000 per night including breakfast (this is around $10Australian) he had a very simple, clean and quite spacious room with an outside sitting area, fan cooled, and with his own bathroom ensuite. This area is very close to everything, and yet is quiet (so far). If you were staying for a longer period I am sure you could negotiate a very good rate. Candi Dasa would be another option - perhaps some time at both. Have a wonderful time.
