After being a loyal qantas Club Member for over ten years now, and flying with them adhoc for at least five years prior to this also, it now looks like they may probably shaft me on my Bali trip next year. Yes the BIG Bali trip - two months in the land of smiles by the miles.

The story goes something like this:

In June this year, 10 months ahead of our planned Bali trip, I booked three frequent flyer (ff) seats for Wife and Kiddies from Cairns to Denpassar return and one ff seat for me Cairns to Darwin return, as this was all the available points I had. Thought I would wait to see if any specials came up for me for the Darwin Denpassar leg of my journey.

Well during the week I checked to see what was available and when I looked at my profile on the qantas web site the flights for the family had "disappeared".

I rang qantas and they explained that they had had to cancel flights because of the bombings, which was fine, but they had no answer to why they had not let me know - they have my residential address, work PO Box Number, two mobile phone numbers, home phone number, work fax number and two email addresses!!!!!

So the lady said not to worry we will re-schedule your booking right now. She said they had a flight out of sydney on that day would that be ok. I asked her if qantas was going to fly us all to Sydney at there expense and the response was in the negative of course. She then said we can get you outta Darwin 2 days later is that ok? I ummed and arded and reluctantly agreed. She put me on hold and came back a little why later and said that plane had no seats available. I said to her it does have seats available but NO FF seats left, as you have to book them so far in advance these days, I knew this to be the story.

She went away again and came back to me and said Australian Airlines have a policy on what to do when this occurs but qantas does not, and I was booked with qantas.

She then told me that she has to send an email to the executive area of qantas to get a ruling on what I am entitled to and I will find out next week.

I have read some of qantas' fine print over the weekend and it's seems the worse thing they can do to me is change all my flights and I stand to lose not only 5,000 points per booking but would not leave us with enough points to go anyway, whenever that may occur due to the time length in advance you have to book them.

Maybe this is an omen to say not to go to Bali - I hope not!!!!

If anyone is interested I will post more on this qantas fiasco once it unfolds.

Yours Twincerely

Unhappy Larry
