As for your questions I think that I can answer some of them. I think that the Villa will obviously be wanting you to ask for a driver and car, they probably keep one on their books all the time, or else it is a friend who runs the service for them. I agree that Blue Taxis are not the answer, when you have finally been to Ubud for the first time to stay then you will realise why, blue taxis don't really work in Ubud, the only ones that you see are those that have brought people into the town from Sanur, Kuta, etc.,
The answer for Ubud is in fact a driver, but since you won't want a driver all the time, you should hire a driver by the day. A few years ago I would have told you to go to the crossroads in Ubud and just pick one,I have learnt a lot since then, not many of those drivers are licenced, and therefore you are taking a huge risk.
I don't want to be seen as a commercial posting here, but you can see that my e-mail is uk, its actually s u e at s u f f o l k - h a l l d o t c o d o t u k (written so that hackers can't get at it, and so that the forum will take it! :-) so if you wanty you can e-mail me and I will tell you about an absolutely marvellous driver, he speaks fantastic English, (hell he even reads English Novels - there aren't many of those to the pound in Bali!) he is the MOST careful driver that I've ever been with in Bali, he ~NEVER takes you to shops where his friends rip you off, he will take you anywhere you wantm, not where he wants, unless you ask for advice, we have used him now since 1999 and we know him very well indeed, unless you are going at the end of January (when we are going) then I will cheerfully give you his name, number etc.
