We stayed at Rambutan last January for a week. We had the Putri
Villa for our family of 3. Villa very nice, big pool was beautiful.
We spent most of each day in the pool. I walked the beach by
myself several times, and had no trouble at all with the sellers. I
had some nice chats with a young man selling dolphin statues,
and actually pitched in and helped a couple more young men sand
their boat in preparation for repainting. Nice.

The beach itself in Lovina isn't so great...a bit littered, but not as
bad as 10 years ago. The water seems to have a layer of brownish
foam on it close to shore, so we opted not to swim near shore,
but did take a boat out for some snorkelling which was fine, clear
water, so so coral (mostly dead) but lots of fish.

Food at Rambutan is so-so. The breakfast is included in the room
price and is fine...nothing special. I think they cut the fruit a good
while prior to serving it, as it was always a bit squashy, but eggs
and toast were always freshly made and hot. Other meals...the
food is fine there...but not special in any way. There are plenty of
restaurants nearby that you can walk to. One of them serves
excellent Thai food...just ask at Rambutan and they'll direct you to
it.

Not sure what exactly you are looking for...we found Lovina to be
even sleepier and less touristy than it was 10 years ago. Although
we were there the first week in Janauary, there weren't many other
tourists about. Rambutan might have been 1/4 filled, if that.

For our next trip, we've decided to go to the Amed area...not that
Lovina was bad, but it wasn't "great"...Rambutan was fine, we
enjoyed it, but Lovina itself felt a bit abandoned. Lots of places
closed.
