If you are leaving from Melbourne, get your bags wrapped if you are worried. Use the Safety Deposit Safes at your hotel. Just be sensible - if you go out, don't leave your bag, don't take drinks off strangers, never leave you drink unattended and be wary of anyone who seema little too frinedly (i.e., may be under the influence of something other than alcohol!)
The above reccommendations are exactly the same we would suggest to people travelling to any city in the world - London, Madrid, Paris, New York, Singapore, and low and behold, even in our fair cities!
Enjoy the sun, the shopping and the nightlife. If this is your first trip I can guarantee you will wonder why you were so worried the moment you sip on your first Bintang!
