Last night, we got very little sleep. While I love the clubs in Bali, I hate how some Indonesians get really sleazy, even on the streets at night when you’re not going clubbing. My friends and I laughed about how if someone sitting on the sidewalk in Australia stuck his hand up my skirt and touched my upper leg, or if someone stroked my boobs as I walked past, I would most probably smash them in the face.

Anyway, after my “episode” the day before I was very paranoid. I decided to spend the morning in the hotel, in close proximity to the toilet. I have to say though that Imodium works wonders – it certainly worked for me because by the afternoon I was 100%. We lazed by the pool, and when I ordered white rice and water for lunch, the staff gave me the weirdest looks.

At about 3pm, we took a taxi to the new Discovery Mall in Tuban. It has really cold air conditioning and while glistening tiles. I didn’t feel like I was in Bali. For me, it was too Westernised, with prices to match. At Centro, although more expensive than other dept stores, the shoe prices weren’t that bad. I didn’t buy a SINGLE pair of shoes or a bag, because there were NONE that I liked. That is a near impossible scenario, it says something. The only shop that I did enjoy was Gramedia. Lots of cheap stickers, cute notebooks, keyrings, pens etc. We spent ages gushing over the stationary and bought quite a bit. They have scrap booking supplies too for anyone who is interested.

Another taxi took us back to Kuta Square where we looked in surf shops, Edward Forrer etc. My head was pounding by this stage and I just wanted to go back to the hotel. During the walk back, I was distracted by very few market stalls although we did end up buying some thongs.

We decided to pick the closest restaurant to the hotel, which ended up being Taman Sari. (unfortunately). We got cold towels, free garlic bread and alcoholic welcome drinks (I expected it to be orange juice so took a huge gulp…) My chicken cashew was nice. We were however extremely disappointed and annoyed that we had to wait an hour for our food. This hardly ever happens in Bali. We all felt sick and tired and just really needed sleep, so that hour went really slowly (we were timing it!). We had to ask for our bill FOUR TIMES (yes, we actually did ask four times) and waited twenty minutes before it finally arrived. Oh, and the restaurant wasn’t even full. Not impressed.

We went back to the hotel and crashed. Zzzzzzz. The shenanigans began at around 2am. First, loud knocking on our door. A South African girl, probably about 20, stood there. We were bleary eyed and angry…. Then she spoke, “HI!!!! Do you know the guys next door?”. NO. “Cos I was supposed to come back to their room but they’re not here yet….” We just stared at her, sort of in shock. “Can I borrow a pen and some paper?”. We should have slammed the door in her face, but we were half asleep so did what she wanted in order to get rid of her. Then our neighbours got back to their room. I have no idea what was going on, but there was a lot of screaming, shouting, drunkenness, LOUD banging on various doors and very dodgy conversations that were impossible not to overhear. At 4am, they all got in the pool and there was a lot more screaming. I’d had ENOUGH. I went outside in my pajamas and asked them “nicely” to be quiet. To my surprise, they were very apologetic and promised to keep the noise down. This was effective for about five minutes.
