Unfortunately I can not comment on Tanjung Benoa. Early this year I stayed at the Tunjung Resort Bali in Legian - maybe this is where the confusion lies.

As I have only ever stayed in the Kuta/Legian area can not really comment except to say the beaches in "The Yak" are alot cleaner and safer, if you swim between the flags, than down in Kuta. But having visited Sanur and Nusa Dua the beaches have less waves there and a lot safer for swimming for the younger ones there.

But the big question is how long are you really going to spend at the beach??? It can get rather hot and tiring if you are not use to it. My suggestion would be the Legian area only short taxi ride to Waterbom Park and only short stroll to the beaches in "The Yak". And not to mention great shopping and eating without the real hustle and bustle of Kuta.

If you what a reccommondation in Legian let me know.
