Granted it is quite mercenary to look upon it purely as an license to exploit. I hope you don't think as it in that way. Rather, what is pleasure-spending for the tourist actually do put food on the table of those make their living of it. By spending your holidays in Indonesia, specifically Bali, you are resuscitating a bit of their economy and as we are often told, every little bit counts. More so, now.
What I find annoying when you come across people who appear to derive the perverse pleasure of exploiting this situation. I have seen package tourists raising cain in a tourist class hotel about their bed linens not being changed daily. Not that I can imagine most people who do..
