The problem comes that rental property is generally minimum 6 months to a year contract, BUT if you find a house available it may pay you to ask, for a slightly higher rent. Decent house rentals in say Phuket, modern with some aircon, 3 beds are around 500 Baht a month, so maybe you can find one available and offer 750 baht for the month, so less for something smaller. Eating cheap is not a problem especially if you go to the local markets and eat tons of seasonal produce. Really, it costs peanuts. If you eat at the local Thai restuarants, it is still very cheap. I guess you could get somewhere to stay and feed yourself for 1000 Baht for the month no problem.
