Have you looked into getting the ferry coach combo ticket from samui to Hou Hin?
I will do it this way if ever I went back to Samui.
2 companies run the service "Seatran" and "Lompryha" with lompryha having the newer faster cat ferries.
You are picked up at your hotel in Samui to the pier in Maenam,where you do 30 mins to Koh Phangang,1 1/2 hours ? to Koh Tao, 2 1/2 hours to Chomporn pier on the main land and then 2 or 3 hours to Hou Hin by coach!
We did the first class sleeper train/coach/ferry in early June and loved it (Sick of flying,Plus Tracey refused to get back on one of those twin prop planes? She was terrified) But f I had seen the ferry coach ticket before buying the train ticket I would have done it as its quicker.
You can stop off at Koh Phangan and Koh Tao on the same ticket if you fancy Island side trips and the ferries have food and films showing.
Total cost 800bht each. It will take you almost as long to get to Suratani if you want to fly to hou Hin.
In june I only see flights to BKK and Phuket advertized.
