If you are coming from Australia, I would firstly subscribe to Jetstar.com.au to be made aware of cheap flight offers. They have just finished a deal where it only cost $400 return per person to Singapore and from there you will be able to get a deal from any number of discount carriers. If you are coming from Europe/US, then I would constantly be checking for deals from local budget carriers. At that time of year, accomadation wont be a problem anywhere in Thailand so you can book that even days before you go, so arrange the fights first. Mid September is an awkward time as the Gulf side..Samui etc, is just going into the wetter season and the Andaman sea side...Phuket,Krabi etc is at the tail end of it's wettest time. I have been to both sides in September and still had plenty of sunshine but I would say you would have a better chance of good weather around Samui. That is assuming you want a beach holiday of course. Let us know a bit of info of what you would like to do and give us an approx accomadation budget and we can give you some more specific information.
