I find fried insects really greasy and without much taste... bit like those cheap snacks that consist mainly of saturated oil, cornflour and MSG.

From personal observation I'd say the Thai gourmet palate prizes the big cockroach things over the crickets and grubs. But then Thais think chicken feet are worth eating too.
