I used to leave Australia on my AU passport and enter UK on my British passport and vis versa just to get through customs quicker!
Mind you I havent been back to the UK since 911 so I am sure it would have changed?

My daughter has Aussie & UK passports (she is Australian and lived here all her life but her father who is now also an Aussie was born in UK.
She travelled to UK etc last month and left on her British passport, so you don't have to use Aussie one to leave and enter Australia.
