Yes, Pratunum certainly is a fantastic area, my wife loves having a trip to Bangkok so she can get into those clothes, shoes & bag shops. The bargains are fantastic. Also you're walking distance to Panthip Plaza. Plus there are all those great Indian restaurants around the Indra Regent & Bioke. Some are a bit grotty but I've always found the food tasty. If you can leave your luggage in the hotel storeroom whilst you dart off to an island or CM then that's a great plus too. Saves you doing mad-rush shopping on the last day.
