I would agree that it's probably the best suited option somewhere that close to BKK but I would totally disagree that White Sands Beach (Hat Sai Keaw) is what you sound like you want. It's the busiest and most crowded beach on the island...think jet skis, banana boats and wall to wall resorts.

If you are willing to pay REALLY top $$$, then Ao Kiu Na Nok would be perfect for you. It used to be the last truly unspoilt and undeveloped beach on the island but now a 6 star resort has taken over it. The resort has done its best to discourage riff raff like me from using its beach by blocking public footpath access to it.

If 80,000B a night sounds a bit steep then Tubtim beach might be a reasonable quietish alternative but don't expect to have the place to yourself.

I was only there last year and was wondering when the Resorts popped up on saikaew beach?
Even Saikaew Beach resort isnt really a resort.
If she stayed at Saikaew beach resort, its right at the end of the beach with minimal traffic and most of their huts are on the old pinapple/bannana beach area around the back of the groin but just a short walk to white sand beach.

I stayed there against my better judgment early last year( because of price/wife) and was dissapointed in the location of the huts so paid the extra for one of the best huts that had its own private beach,we had no noise at all exept for the ferries and fishing boats and the hut was exelent.

"Tonsak Huts" are pretty good too! we stayed there last year and was the only non Thais staying there, quite pricey for the basic log cabins but right on the beach near Saikaiw resort with not much noise at all! We had to walk further up the beach to get any kind of action.

Samet is just so cheap and easy to get to from BKK when you have limited time/cash to play with, thats why Thais go there for short breaks.

4-5 hours and you can forget the smog and lay back on the sand and pat a dog

Den.
