This sounds like a really good holiday coming up for you. heard form others here in this forum that the small islands south of Koh Lanta like Koh Ngai, Koh Rok are also quite nice as well. perhaps you may want to visit these places as well.

Could I suggest that since you are going up to Hanoi to take train to visit Sapa as well. I went there in dec 2006 and there was plenty of nice scenery and seeing the colourful culture of people living there was interesting as well.
