Thanks so much for the answer. We've been to Phuket twice before and have been to Kata but just really to Mom Tris and can't remember a lot about Kata as we stay at the Merlin Beach Hotel in Patong at Tri Trang Beach. We are going on 26th September, first 10 nights at Katathani and 12 nights Merlin. We like the Merlin but we thought that we'd like a change and decided to hedge our bets in case we didn't like the Katathani and book for both.When I first looked at the Katathani on Trip Advisor I saw mostly positive reviews but recently saw a lot of negative ones but some did seem a bit far fetched e.g the grounds of the hotel were very neglected.We met people last year who were staying there and they said the grounds were well kept. We are staying in a junior suite in the Thani wing and we hope to get one with a good ocean view. I read that the balconies are not private, is that right ? At the Merlin you can't see your neighbours unless you stand right at the edge of the balcony or actually stick your head around the dividing wall. Is this the same at the Katathani ? I also read that the lower floor rooms have a bit of a mildew type smell and also that the view is blocked somewhat by trees. I have read about Kata and Kata Central, how far apart are they and what is the difference between the two ? I am pleased to know that we can actually walk somewhere to eat and for entertainment, as I get sick of relying on tuk tuks and paying such ridiculous prices for such short distances. The taxis in Bangkok are so cheap in comparison. Are there any bars or restaurants that you would advise us to try ? I heard of one that is on the beach that is a reggae type place but I don't know if it is within walking distance. Any suggestions for a nice place on the beach to go at sunset for a drink or dinner ? When we were at Mom Tris and sitting looking out to sea there was a place up to the left that looked very popular but we were having such a nice time we couldn't be bothered to walk up and have a look, do you know what it is ? What is the shopping like in Kata in comparison to Patong and could you suggest anywhere for a facial ? Do you go into Patong much when you stay at Kata ? We were planning to take advantage of being in Kata and see things further south whilst there and stay away from Patong until we haved moved to the Merlin. So many questions and I'm sure I'll think of more, you may regret your offer !!
