Hi Michelle,
The walk is short but steep. If you are reasonably fit it wont bother you and it's downhill on the way back most importantly.
There are bars across the road from the Kata Thani. I would say thay would have recorded music. There are a few bands at some small bars in Kata but they will be closer to Kata centre, which will require a tuk tuk(100baht).
